Volkswagen Rat Rods For Sale
Volkswagen Beetles or, VW Bugs, and micro buses are the only foreign cars I would consider a rat rod. In my opinion, because of the VWs impact on the American culture and its sheer popularity, I believe this automobile deserves a special mention as a VW rat rod.
As a rat rod, the classic vintage VW is relatively easy to repair, fuel efficient, and, in most cases, still drivable when rusted to hell. Heating and air conditioning is not a big concern since both are probably inoperable in an un-restored VW rat rod. If you want an open-wheeled VW Bug, just remove the fenders - keep in mind you will lose your turn-signals and headlights. However, with some simple fabrication of some metal brackets, you can re-mount the lamps and keep your VW Rat Rod street legal.
I have a member of my family who is a high-ranking official in the United States Government. He is a very straight-laced and serious guy. He wears a suit and tie every day and Brooks Brothers shirts on his days off. However, he has one interesting and harmless quirk. He loves 1971 VW Bugs and split-window Volkswagen Micro Buses.
He has five or six vehicles with maybe one of them in running shape at a time. They all look like they are ready for the car-crusher and thats exactly how he like them. He claims it keeps the criminal element away? His wife loves his hobby since it keeps him around the house on his days off.
